Carpal tunnel Syndrome

This is a medical condition in which the median nerve, on its travel through the wrist, is compressed. This results in pain, tingling and numbness in index, middle fingers and thumb of hand . While the mechanism is not very clear, it is evident that contributory factors are obesity, diabetes, pregnancy, hypothyroidism, and a narrow-diameter carpal tunnel . Physical examination, blood tests and nerve tests help identify the condition. Treatment options include avoiding activities that cause symptoms and using a wrist splint, physical therapy for stretching and range of motion exercises, and anti-inflammatory drugs.
Due to nerve damage, if these treatment options do not help, release of the nerve as day care surgery is recommended.
