Any abnormality in the formation, shape or alignment of the vertebral column is referred to as spine deformity. Some deformities are mild and are not identified in childhood. But Scoliosis and Kyphosis are two common and prominently visible deformities. Scoliosis is an abnormal curvature of the spine occurring in children, adolescents and even adults. This leads to sitting imbalance , breathing difficulty, delayed development, rib hump, shoulder height imbalance. Kyphosis is a condition in which spinal balance has moved too forward that prevents the spine from effectively carrying the body weight. Patients walk in a forward bent posture because they are not able to stand straight. This condition when combined with scoliosis, is called Kyphoscoliosis. Non-operative treatments are bracing and physical therapy.

Surgery is required when these methods are not effective and the deformity is progressive.
